The Grow Box is Now a CIC – What That Means and Why It Matters

We’ve got some exciting news to share – The Grow Box is now officially a Community Interest Company (CIC)!

You’ve supported us as your local greengrocer and butcher, and now we’re stepping into a new chapter with a renewed focus on community. Becoming a CIC means we’re not just a shop – we’re a social enterprise, committed to making Redruth a more connected, nourished, and supported place to live.

What is a CIC?

A CIC (Community Interest Company) is a type of business designed to benefit the community rather than private shareholders. It’s a legal structure that locks in our social purpose, ensuring profits go back into the business or into local projects that align with our mission.

In plain English: we’re here for you, not for profit.

Why We Made the Change

From the beginning, The Grow Box has been about more than just great food. We’ve always aimed to be a place where people feel welcome, included, and part of something bigger. After opening a cafe becoming a CIC was the natural next step for us.

This change allows us to:

• Run community suppers, film nights, and quiz nights in our café
• Partner with local groups like to offer meaningful work experience to people with complex needs
• Tackle social isolation with regular book clubs, games nights, and a welcoming lunch club
• Offer support to other local CICs and charities through events and collaboration

What Stays the Same

Don’t worry – you’ll still find the same friendly faces, local produce, and high-quality meat at The Grow Box. We’re still your neighbourhood shop, just with a bigger heart and an even bigger mission.
